His Excellency Johann Verbeke, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for the Kingdom of Belgium to the United States bid farewell to a group of friends, colleagues, members of the Washington, DC diplomatic community, and other honored guests at a reception hosted at the Belgian Residence. Ambassador Verbeke will be returning to Belgium and retiring from public service after a distinguished career which has seen him crisscross the globe, working in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Latin America, and several times in North America. He held positions such as Chief Spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of Belgium, Chef de Cabinet to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Director General for European Affairs, Belgian Ambassador for the Permanent Mission of Belgium to the United Nations where he served as Belgium’s representative on the Security Council, Ambassador to the United Kingdom among others.
Faleiro Managing Director Christian Bartley, in his capacity as Advisor for Economic Diplomacy to the Kingdom of Belgium would like to thank Ambassador Verbeek for his work in building stronger economic, educational and diplomatic relations between Belgium and the United States; for his dedication to bringing to bear all of Belgium’s resources to support this work; and for his longtime friendship with the United States. We wish the Ambassador the best of luck in all his future endeavors.
Belgium’s next Ambassador to the United States will be His Excellency Dirk Wouters, and is scheduled to arrive this Autumn.
